Silence has a profound effect on the human brain and behavior. Neuroscientific studies show that periods of silence activate the default mode network (DMN) of the brain, which is responsible for self-reflection, memory consolidation, and emotional regulation. When individuals enter silence, their brain engages in a form of "mental housekeeping," allowing them to process unresolved thoughts and experiences.
